How do you get your offer accepted in a seller’s market? Here are the four tips you need to follow:
1. Be prepared to make your offer. If you need to sell your current home first, get it sold, because writing a contingent offer in a hot seller’s market isn’t going to work.
2. Remember to play nice. If you’re looking to get a price reduction or something similar, remember that you may have to compete against a dozen or so other offers. This means you need to make your offer crisp and clean.
Sometimes the most important factor to sellers isn’t how much money they’ll get, but who will live in their home next.
3. Find out what’s important to the seller. Sometimes they need to stay longer; sometimes they need to get out of town quicker. Sometimes they want more money; sometimes they want something else. In any case, you need to find out what’s important to them in terms of getting their home sold.
4. Show that you’re a family. This is probably the most important tip. Put a face to your offer and tell the seller who you are by writing them a letter and perhaps showing them some pictures, too. Sometimes the most important factor to sellers isn’t how much money they’ll get, but who will live in their home next.
